Hamsters again...

Visit Fluffy the Hamster Site and know more about hamster care.
Well since we started to talk about hamster, here are some more hamster FYI:
Typical hamsters sold in Philippine petshops are called "Golden Hamster", "Teddybear hamster" or Syrian Hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus)
Striped Hamster or Chinese Striped Hamster (Cricetus griseus) are not a true dwarf hamster, but are of a similar size as the other dwarf hamsters.
Dwarf hamsters differ from other species in that they are social and can be kept in pairs or small groups.
The Chinese Dwarf Hamster (Cricetulus griseus) is considered to be one of the "ratlike" hamsters. They have a slightly longer tail, more pointed and longer nose, and tend to be thinner in build than other hamsters. All in all, they do look more ratlike. They are brown, with a dorsal stripe.
The Chinese hamsters all have a dorsal stripe. The Campbells (Phodopus campbelli) is brownish-grey in color, with a white belly. The Siberian or Winter-White (Phodopus sungorus)is grey in color during the summer and turns almost entirely white in the winter--the change being triggered by the length of days, not by temperature. The Roborovsky (Phodopus roborovskii) is similar to the Campbells, but slightly darker, and has white patches above the eyes, resembling eyebrows.

Speaking of Rovorovski, I found some Roborovski hamster in Bioresearch SM Mega Mall branch in EDSA and WOW! Too expensive! Roborovskis (Phodopus roborovskii) are the smallest and fastest of all hamsters which are commonly kept as pets. I think it's best to keep them on aquariums rather than in cages. They have the nasty habit to squeeze out of thight spots.
Remember! Hamsters are solitary and territorial. They should always be housed alone! If you like a sociable hamster, then Dwarf hamsters are for you!
